Come here to learn about the setup and care of a terrarium or aquarium, and learn lots of great facts that will help you on your journey
There are many things you have to do when caring for an aquarium of any type. This article is going to cover the care of a freshwater aquarium. The care of a freshwater tank is split into 3 main groups.
Daily care, weekly care, and monthly maintenance. These four groups are a large topic, but we are going to go over them all in this article. First of all, daily care. Every day, you should feed your fish, shrimp, and other tank inhabitants the correct food. Different creatures aren't going to the exact same food. Fish that live in the top and mid-water levels of tank, like rasboras and tetras, should be fed high quality flake food and small frozen foods. Fish and shrimp that feed at the bottom of the tank, like plecos and corydoras, should be given pellets and frozen food that will sink to the bottom. You also should check your fish every day for any signs of disease. Next up, weekly care. Every week, you should do a 25% water change on your aquarium, refilling it with either de-chlorinated tap water, or distilled water with re-mineralizer in it. You should also check your filter media, and clean or replace as needed. Also trim any plants that have overgrown or that don't have the look you want. Finally on to monthly maintenance. Every month, you should do a 45% water change, and replace your filter media. You should also use a gravel vacuum to stir up substrate in places without sand or plants. I hope this article helps you in caring for your freshwater aquarium. Next time, we will talk about terrarium maintenance and setting up terrariums and aquariums.
